Bling, sparkle, glitter! All are terms used when giving that little extra something to our paper craft projects. One of the hottest, new ways to add that little extra sparkle is by using Shimmerz! And now with 4 new colors from the Shimmerz Blingz line presently exclusively at Jacksonbelle Embellishments there is even more to excite your bling desires! These wonderful little jars of happiness are easy to use, versatile and a lot of shiny bang for the buck! Our own Michelle Woerner has been sweet enough to share with us this awesome tutorial! Thanks, Michelle! Hope you all enjoy!

“Hi everyone, it’s Michelle! Shimmerz is my new FAVORITE way to add shimmer and sparkle to my cards! Not only have I been using it on my cards for several weeks now, but I also had the pleasure of giving some away as blog candy during the Jacksonbelle Embellishment New Years Eve bash (thanks Lindsey, you rock!). Well, since then I have been getting questions and emails about Shimmerz. What is it? How do you use it? Is it opaque, clear, what? Etc. So, I thought I would do a little tutorial about it. Be kind, this is my first tutorial!!

What is it? Well, it is a liquid with tiny “shimmerz” things in it (very technical, I know -LOL) that comes in little jars. I apply it with an old SU! aquapainter (dry, not filled with water). Here is a picture of the beginning of a project. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-1

You give the jar a good shaking to make sure all the shimmerz stuff is all mixed up. Here is a picture of the jar of Wintergreen shaken up. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-2

For this tutorial, I stamped an image (from the Inkadinkado Birds Galore set) with 4 different kinds of black ink on white Georgia Pacific cardstock. This will not only show what the Shimmerz looks like painted on white CS, but it shows which inks bleed with Shimmerz painted on it. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-3shimmerz-tutorial-pic-4

Here is a close up of the Versafine image painted with Royal Red. As you can see there is NO bleeding of any kind with this ink and the Red dries a soft redish color (almost an SU Ruby Red hue to it). shimmerz-tutorial-pic-51

Here is a close up of Adirondack pitch black painted with Wintergreen. As you can see there is a TINY bit bleeding of the ink. Not so much where I painted the body of the birdie, but where I smeared it over the tail as a test area. The green dries a very pale minty green color. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-6

Here is a close up of SU! black painted with Gold. Again, there is a TINY bit of bleeding of the ink. As with the Adirondack, not if you are filling in the body, but more so when smearing it all around the tail. The gold dries a very light golden color, almost clear with a hint of gold. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-7

Here is a close up of Stazon black. Absolutely NO bleeding of the ink at all. Angel Wings dries completely clear which makes it perfect for painting over something already colored to add shine and not alter the existing color. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-8

You can also paint it on Prima flowers and cardstock!! It adds a little shine withOUT ruining, warping or pilling them. Here is a close-up picture of a painted black Prima (from the Youth bottle). The petals on the left are painted with Angel Wings and it added some shine without effecting the color of the flower at all. The petals on the right are painted with Coal and you can see it not only added shine, but made the black petal a bit richer. shimmerz-tutorial-pic-9

Some of you have asked how Shimmerz compares with Stickles. Shimmerz is very different from Stickles, it doesn’t take as long to dry (stickles can sometimes take overnight!) and is a much thinner medium -Stickles is a very “chunky” medium. Since you can apply Shimmerz with a small brush, you can actually color your image with Shimmerz colors or you can use Angel Wings and go over an image already colored and just add shine to it.

I have gone over images colored with Copic Markers, Prismacolor pencils and SU markers and NONE of these smear with the Shimmerz painted over them!!

And as a side note, I was able to compare the Inkadinkado acrylic stamps with 4 common black inks and by far, the Versafine and Stazon left the most crisp image.

This is the end of my tutorial and I hope you answered your questions! If you have additional questions, feel free to leave a comment here and I will answer them as soon as I can! Have a great day and BE SURE to check out the FOUR FABULOUS new and exclusive to Jacksonbelle only, Shimmerz colors in stock now!!”
